SHELTER LINK

The Shelter Link program provides Internet based Video Remote Interpreting services and equipment for emergency shelters where communication is critical on a 24/7 basis. Video conferencing units are connected to Deaf Link's communication center, which is manned around the clock with certified interpreters. The Shelter Link program provides communication access in American Sign Language as well as spoken languages to facilitate effective communication between evacuees, doctors, nurses, security personnel, and volunteers. Shelter Link units were used in Texas shelters during hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Gustav and Ike.
