Great News!
The Division of Emergency Management is happy to announce a new program to assist persons in Lexington who are deaf and hard of hearing to receive emergency alert messages. We would like to introduce you to the Accessible Hazard Alert System (AHAS).
AHAS™ provides our community the capability of including persons who are deaf, blind, hard of hearing or deaf/blind, and persons with low literacy into emergency preparedness before, during and after a disaster.
AHAS™ is a free service that will send emergency alerts directly to your smartphones, tablets, computers and braille compatible devices in the event of severe weather, chemical accidents, and other emergencies. Clicking on the link in the alert will direct you to a video of the alert being signed in American Sign Language. The website also has preparedness videos so you can learn more about being prepared for disasters in Lexington. The Division of Emergency Management is excited to add this capability to our emergency alert system
